Thanks for your interest in midwifery! My name is Heather Hilton, and I am excited to have joined the ranks of the excellent midwives here in Austin, Texas. I feel so blessed to have been given this calling!
Most
importantly, I am a wife and mother. My husband, Aaron, is my
best friend and soul mate. We have three sons, Michael, Andrew, and Daniel, and twin daughters Taylor and Trinity.
We homeschool our
children and consider them a blessing. I am honored to be a mother. We are a Christian family and attend Milwood Baptist Church. |
I
have been involved in birth work since 2001, shortly after the birth
of my second son. My first birth had been quite traumatic, and during
my second pregnancy I learned about HypnoBirthing. It was a life changing
experience. I had an amazing birth, free of fear and pain, and shortly
after I became a Certified HypnoBirthing childbirth educator. I knew
immediately that I wanted to be a midwife.
Soon,
I began attending the births of my clients as their doula. It was amazing
to be a guide for women and families through the journey of birth. I
learned so many things about labor support and how to really be emotionally
available to women and their partners. The calling to be a midwife became
even stronger, and I could no longer deny it.
In 2004, I applied and was accepted to the Association
of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program. In May, 2005, my family
and I traveled to Juneau, Alaska where I completed a 5 month apprenticeship
at a non-profit birth center / homebirth practice. In May, 2006, I returned
home and began a 15 month apprenticeship at a birth center/homebirth
practice in Austin. My two apprenticeships were very different and I
learned different skills from each midwife that I encountered.
I graduated ATM/MTP in August, 2007 and took and passed the North American Registry of Midwives' exam in October, 2007. I received my license from the state of Texas in December, 2007.
I
look forward to continuing my support of Austin area women and their
families as a midwife and doula.
"And
because the midwives feared God, He gave them families of their own."
